Thank you for visiting our website!
So you want to learn more about Casa de las Comunidades, up close and personal? We are located at 444 Chama St. SE at the corner of Chama and Bell (building faces Bell) in the International District of Albuquerque, NM, 87108. Our phone number is 505-265-2371, or 505-249-2781.
The mural at the top of the page is an example of how spontaneously our “programs” come into being. This expression of Casa by our friends and neighbors has been a creation of many hands. Come and hear the story of how this mural came into being. Three figures painted here are part of our identity as a Catholic Worker House. Our Lady of Victory on the left represents Our Lady of Victory Missionary Sisters who, under the direction of Rev. John J. Sigstein, first came to rural New Mexico to be of service as catechists in the 1920’s. Our leader, Sr. Teresa Aparicio OLVM is a member of that order, and we currently have 5 Associates (4 new ones!) of that order. Near the center of the mural is Dorothy Day, who began the Catholic Worker newspaper and Movement along with Peter Maurin. On the right is of course Our Lady of Guadalupe, revered Holy Mother whose appearance to Juan Diego in Mexico gave another face to Mary, Mother of Jesus.
Our Free Food Distribution days are Thursdays at 11am and Saturdays at 10:00am. Among other foods we offer fresh produce generously contributed by Sprouts on San Mateo, from Community Plate, Trinity House and several surrounding parishes.
